What you might see
It's not just swords...
Some of our combatants us polearms too.
Sir Bryan (Left) is using a Bardische.
Sir John (Right) is using a pollaxe/Lucerne hammer.
Outdoor cookery
Yes we DO eat the food you see being prepared (if you hang around, you'll see).
please do chat to our cooks, they're always happy to explain what they're doing.
REALLY???
Medieval folks didn't always present food the way you might expect - some of the flavourings would seem a little strange to modern tastebuds too.
MELEE!
You may hear some yell melee, this is the cue for any & all combatants to pick up whatever weapon(s) and fight until there's only one man (or woman) left standing - until the audience shout the 'magic' words, when they all miraculously recover.
Marching to battle
At many of the bigger events, dozens, hundreds or even thousands of us combine forces to reenact a famous (or imagined) battle, sometimes the outcome is known in advance, sometimes a battle allowed to run it's course.
Archery
some of us take part in archery demonstrations, competitions & even battlefield archery, with both longbows and crossbows.
Sometimes you get to have a go too.
Heavy swords
These are horned great swords, they weigh around 3.5 kilos each. The wavy one on the Right is a Flambard (flame blade)
Ladies fighting?
Sometimes yes. Here we see Lady Beatrix (Left) and Lady Alice (Right) using their longswords.
Scribe?
Sometimes we are asked to escort a Priest as he travels the country, here's Father Mirkin catching up on some paperwork.
Many of our tents are open & accessible, do step inside and look around...
