Outdoor cookery

Yes we DO eat the food you see being prepared (if you hang around, you'll see).

REALLY???

Medieval folks didn't always present food the way you might expect - some of the flavourings would seem a little strange to modern tastebuds too.

MELEE!

You may hear some yell melee, this is the cue for any & all combatants to pick up whatever weapon(s) and fight until there's only one man (or woman) left standing - until the audience shout the 'magic' words, when they all miraculously recover.

Marching to battle

At many of the bigger events, dozens, hundreds or even thousands of us combine forces to reenact a famous (or imagined) battle, sometimes the outcome is known in advance, sometimes a battle allowed to run it's course.

Archery

some of us take part in archery demonstrations, competitions & even battlefield  archery, with both longbows and  crossbows.

Sometimes you get to have a go too.

Heavy swords

These are horned great swords, they weigh around 3.5 kilos each.  The wavy one on the Right is a Flambard (flame blade)

Ladies fighting?

Sometimes yes. Here we see Lady Beatrix (Left) and Lady Alice (Right) using their longswords.
